John Sullivan's Memorial

Sullivan's Memorial Kotagiri

Popularly known as John Sullivan's Bungalow/Red Bungalow or the Pethakal Bungalow, that the British Collector of Coimbatore, John Sullivan (the first European occupant of the Nilgiri hills) constructed during his stay at Kotagiri, has been restored to a better condition and is converted into a memorial. Presently, the bungalow houses the Nilgiris Museum and the Nilgiris Documentation Centre.

The memorial portrays a number of rare portraits, newsprint filings and artifacts that belonged to the different tribal people living here in Kotagiri. Altogether, the John Sullivan's Memorial in Kotagiri will reveal a lot about the history of the Nilgiris. From the year 2006, the John Sullivan's Bungalow is being well-kept by the Nilgiri Documentation Centre in assistance with the Development Promotion Group, Chennai.
